“Who controls the alphabet?”
We discussed who/what controls/influences the languages we speak.
Creating a new phonetic alphabet for Portuguese: I focused especially on common vowel sounds and their affiliated mouth shapes, like the shape and sound and form of “-ão” and suffixes like “-inha” and “-inho”, “-eira” and “-eiro”. In thinking about application for this visual shorthand, I considered how place-names in Brazil, like São Paulo and Rio De Janeiro might be re-represented in this new visual style.

(Thinking about traces of information and manuscripts, and deciphering things)
