Methods of investigating: EustonWall

INITIAL INVESTIGATIONS

Poetic impression of the scene

I behold ‘bouldering’:

Sprawls of block colours bolted to solid white;

They are like thrown confetti, yet too ordered to be an accident.

The walls are punctured by holes, and the holds punctuate the holes.

The routes are constellations of some sort of polymer solid,

Some formed like clefts of rock, some rounded, some like handlebars,

Some like oyster mushrooms, one like an ammonite.

There are volumes too: diamonds and multi-faceted beams, staggered

To lean upon, to step upon, to press a cluster of toes under pressure

In tight rubber shoes. The climbers are reaching, flexing, stretching.

They look for metal circles at the base of the route to place their hands,

For ‘s’s or ‘ss’s or ‘v-something’s

And ascend !

Until the highest plastic shape, with or without an ‘f’.

It’s best to climb down but sometimes they jump or fall.

Zine Workshop

‘Fanzines, flyers, and Britain’s acid house subculture’ with Tim Gibney

Creating a zine (here in puzzle-purse format) to share a subculture. I explored sharing visual and written information about EustonWall. Thinking about ways my investigative findings could be conveyed.

Exploring the shapes and patterns further in digital form (using Illustrator for the first time):

Creating a digital zine/flyer/invitation into the space:
